final observation on my anthro prof and why I think I’m gonna love her
When I asked about my concern that the discipline can easily tip into othering and being voyeuristic toward other cultures
she thanked me for the question
then addressed it with a long, thoughtful response that didn’t at all go for the easy answers.
And acknowledged that there’s a long way the discipline has yet to go to overcome those issues.
and spoke of the importance of centreing the narratives of the people you are interacting with, the ones who are part of X culture
it was a good response
jdksbajkhfdk I want to listen to your anthro prof, I’m in love with anthro but I’ve been feeling super uncomfortable with the colonial foundations/history of the field and the othering/voyuerism issues and ksdnjhkfsgn.
