Want to really be sex positive?
TAG YOUR PORN.
Or include descriptive text, or SOMETHING. Part of sex positivity is making sure it is a positive thing. Part of that is not forcing it on those who don’t want it. And that includes porn.
I would never say no one should post porn. Heck I get furious when I hear people suggest that there’s something wrong or especially deviant/perverse/signalling that a person is violently inclined because they like/post/are in porn.
For those who are sexual, respectful porn can be a wonderful or enjoyable thing. It can even be a helpful one. But that doesn’t mean that there shouldn’t be alternatives to seeing it for those who are As or for whom certain images are triggering- wether that trigger is for PTSD or for OCD.
Having something with your posts that mark them as porn or explicit helps with that. There are tools some people use- such as Tumblr Savior and Safe Dash/missing e- which help people avoid triggering content. Having a tag on a post allows people to be tipped off about a post’s content, as well as allows tumblr savior to block stuff.
Of course, Tumblr Savior tends to not be selective about how things are worded when blocking posts. So a post that is porn is blocked but so is a post discussing tagging porn or tips on how to avoid porn. Safe Dash, on the other hand, can hide all images- but without image descriptions or tagging, there’s no way to know what the image is to UN-hide it.
If you choose to do image descriptions of porn, please start off with “It is porn” or “contains nudity/sexual content” if you believe it isn’t porn but does depict sexual situations. This way, those who are not interested can skip it. (Note: I don’t know if you can skip text or how that works in screen readers, so I don’t know if there is a way for this to work with them. If you use one, let me know if you wish so I can include- attributed of course- correct info.)
This way those of us who do like or not mind porn *cough* can do so without triggering our friends who don’t/can’t enjoy it for various reasons. (Said friends, this works or…?)
Also usually I don’t have safe-dash on. Most images I’m okay with normally and I don’t follow blogs that post porn regularly.
It would occur to me that you could use both safe-dash and tumblr savior together and, you know, unhide porn posts after turning safe-dash on; which will allow you to, you know, read the text without having to see pictures that may result in unpleasantness.
(Also if you stick and image in that links to a file off of tumblr it’ll appear as that gray picture icon until clicked, which is another thing you can do to help with this that doesn’t incovenience people who do want porn.)
